The Forensic Division uses the following systems for the visualization of latent fingerprints:
1. Cyanoacrylate fuming system for scenes of crime.
2. Portable equipment for the visualization of fingerprints through
the cyanoacrylate method.
1. Cyanoacrylate fuming system for scenes of crime.
Multiple dimension – capacity chamber, of rigid construction, with an aluminum or stainless steel frame and large windows for surveillance purposes. The chamber has one door and it is hermetic sealed in order to prevent the emission of gasses within the lab area.
Equipment:
Mist propagation unit, which can reach humidity levels up to 80%.
The time required to reach these levels has to be 10 – 20 minutes.
Two cyanoacrylate fuming systems – thermostatically controlled (digitally) at 120°C.
Inside chamber air recirculation system, for the uniform allocation of the chamber’s conditions.
Suspension system on the chamber’s ceiling.
Control panel – indicator – function unit and automatic function unit, and manual operation option.
Digital signs for humidity percentage, fuming system temperature and time.
There is a settings change option (temperature – humidity) for the user,
adjusted to special requirements and conditions.
In case the fuming systems exceed the limits of humidity and temperature to 120oC,
a safety system takes over.
In case they surpass this value, the unit automatically turns off. Indicatively, limits excess.
Operational cycle 30-60 minutes.
Warning signal-alarm for opening the chamber’s door.
Automatic actuating gases fanning mill (Φ 12), which actuates at the end of each program.
Manual actuation option.
End of program indicator.
Alternatively, the mill may be replaced by a special activated carbon purifying filter,
which is consumable.
2. Portable equipment for the visualization of fingerprints through
the cyanoacrylate method.
Technical features:
The portable equipment is used in the visualization of latent fingerprints in indoor research
environments, 10 – 100 m³ large.
It comprises: Two mist propagation units, with an output of 3KW and an integrated air circulator,
allowing humidity values up to 80% within a time limit of 20-30 minutes.
Automatic and manual operation through an operating control.
Two fuming systems producing cyanoacrylate vapour with air circulators,
heating panels with digital signs,
thermostatically controlled at 120oC through an operating control.
Warning light indicating overtemperature.
Independent unit of internal air filtration, with activated carbon and air circulator;
all the unit is remotely controlled.
Air purification option within 60 minutes and cyanoacrylate vapour waste management.
Filter purification – replacement option.
Cabled control for the remote use and control of the whole system.
There is also an option of operating partial units.
Portable moisture meter – thermometer.
Stands to hold each unit, of about 50 centimeters height.
Case – System transfer suit-case.
DFO, fuming cabinet
NINHYDRIN, fuming cabinet
Stainless steel door with flint glass for surveillance purposes and silicone blow gasket.
Adjustable shelves.
Right insulation and moisture proofing for the chamber.
Systems providing and controlling temperature and humidity.
Automatic operation programs: Ninidrine = 75°C & 75% rH.
DFO = 75°C & 10% rH.
There is a settings change option (temperature – humidity) for the user,
tailored to special requirements and conditions.
Mist propagation unit, which can reach humidity levels up to 90%.
Inside chamber air recirculation system, for the uniform allocation of the chamber’s conditions.
Electronic control panel – digital, with a self-diagnosis system.
Gases fanning mill.
Alternatively, there may be placed a special activated carbon filter, which is consumable.
Wheeled cradle with brakes.
Automatic water-feeding from the network.
